Things to do

We cannot provide an exhaustive list of everything to see and do in this beautiful and inspirational corner of the Highlands, but we hope to be able to give you a real flavour of what to expect.

There are numerous castle, brochs and museums to visit, offering you a real insight in to the turbulent history of an independent and proud people, including several museums dedicated to crofting life in the Inner and Outer Hebrides.

It may be that you really want to get away from civilisation totally, in which case you are certainly coming to the right place! You may want to get your walking boots on straight-away, or maybe a pony trek takes your fancy - either way you can be assured that the experience will be unforgettable, whether it be the scenery or the wildlife that takes your breath away! Maybe you prefer visiting National Trust estates/nature reserves/forestry walks, where information is provided and guided tours/walks are available - then don’t worry, because they are here too!

If Golf is your game then we even have a couple of great golf courses which are, not surprisingly, set amidst stunning scenery.

You may want to investigate the many fresh and sea water lochs around Skye during your stay - the choice of boat trips is as wide as the ocean - everything from glass bottomed boats and jet boats through to fishing boats.

We also have suggestions for various day trips, enabling you to get the most out of your visit to the Misty Isle, or maybe you’re determined to find the numerous arts and crafts shops and galleries, scattered all over the place - little treasures which often require a hunting party to find - but highly rewarding once discovered!

If you are wanting to pre-plan your stay or whet your appetite further, then we suggest buying the following: Philip's Red Books Skye & Lochalsh Map - copies can be purchased for £4.99 + p&p. Visit Octopus Publishing Group.

For a very brief overview of the area, just to give you a general feel for the place rather than an A-Z, then take a look at our own map of Skye and Lochalsh.

Finally, why not check out the events page to see what is going on in the area when you are planning to be with us!
